Amigurumi Crochet Blobfish.
This is an easy and super fun pattern for an amigurumi blobfish. I really like blobfish, they are just an interesting fish, and I thought that it would be fun to make my own blobfish pattern! My blobfish is one that has floated to the surface, which is why it is sad. ☹️
You may not share or sell this pattern or sell any finished blobfish made from this pattern. If you do wish to sell this blobfish or any of my other amigurumis you can by the patterns on my Esty shop.
Supplies
You will need these materials to make the blobfish.
- Loops and Threads Sweet Snuggles pink jumbo weight yarn (you might want to find a velvet chenille yarn that sheds a little bit less)
- Any black DK weight yarn
- 11.5 mm safety eyes
- 15mm safety eyes
- Poly-Fil
- Row counter
- Tapestry needle
- Sharp scissors
What Is a Blobfish?
You have probably heard about blobfish, and you have probably seen the first photo I have put in of a blobfish. The second photo shows what they actually look like when they are in their deep sea habitat.
Blobfish are in the family Psychrolutidae, also known as marine sculpins, flathead sculpins, or tadpole sculpins. Their scientific name is Psychrolutes marcidus.
In their normal habitat, up to a kilometer deep, blobfish look like any other fish because the pressure is 60 to 120 times that of sea level. However, when they die and float to the surface or get swept up by currents, their tissue undergoes extreme damage and expands due to the sudden pressure drop.
Blobfish do not have very much muscle, and they do not need it because they can float slightly above the ocean floor. They eat deep sea crustaceans and other things that float or wander by. They have a much higher fat and water content than regular fish, and they do not have a swim bladder.
Abbreviations and Tips
- Use the photos I have to place all of the objects onto the body correctly and pin everything in place before you sew.
- This blobfish has safety eyes, and the yarn sheds a little bit if it is messed with a lot, so it should not be used as a toy for young children or pets.
- If you get confused by any of the instructions, or you notice something is wrong in the pattern, feel free to message me or comment.
- Sewing the black line is kind of hard, so do not secure anything before you finish the mouth.
These are the abbreviations I will be using in this pattern:
- sc=single crochet
- dc=double crochet
- hdc=half double crochet
- ch=chain
- st=stitch
- sts=stitches
- sl st=slip stitch
