Baby's Best Buddy Prototype for 3D Young Innovators Project by Chitkarsh Mishra
Pregnancy is an exciting journey, but it can be hard for pregnant mothers to keep their babies safe all the time. Baby’s Best Buddy is a smart watch that monitors these risks in real-time using sensors. It empowers moms to make the best choices every day, ensuring healthy, happy babies and moms.
Supplies
- Cardstock paper
- Flexible Foam
- Tape
- Scissors
- Glue
- Small Rubber Band
- Markers
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Colored Pencil
- Crafting Knife
- Copy Paper
Please note that the real watch will include the sensors, which are for motion, heart rate, sound, temperature, transdermal alcohol, and air quality. The case and strip will be 3D printed so that it can be waterproof and lightweight.
Planning Out the Prototype
On a piece of paper, draw out how you want your prototype to look like. My example is pictured above.
Making the Net for the Case
To make the case, draw a net with your pencil and a ruler. The front facing screen and the back should be 5 by 5 centimeters. The sides should be 5 centimeters long and 1 centimeter wide. Draw it just like the net pictured above.
Adding Details for the Watch
Draw a button on the side with marker. Then using different colored markers, make circles where the sensors will be like shown in the pictures above. Use colored pencils and color the rest of the net.
Making the Strap for the Watch
Using your scissors, cut a 10 ½ by 2 ½ centimeter strip for the strap.
Making Slits for the Strap
Trace the thickness of your strap onto the top and bottom sides of your net. Then cut it with your crafting knife.
Making the Flap for Normal Screen/alerted Screen
On your net's screen, make a warning symbol and write "WARNING!" under it like shown above. Cut out a piece of copy paper and make a drawing of the 5 by 5 centimeter screen. You may need to make the sensor above the screen again. Color the screen black and glue the flap on.
Folding the Case Together
First tape the bottom, left and right flaps. Then tape the fourth flap.
Putting the Strap Through the Case
Slide the strap through the case.
Wearing the Prototype
To wear the protoype, slide on the rubber band as shown above. Then you can make it curved so you can wear it like shown above.
