Chill Space
Since the pandemic, we can only stay at the house so my dad and I decided to recreate our roof. We live in a small apartment that's only 5 floors but back before we bought the house they built another room on the roof which you can say is on the 6th floor. It’s illegal right now but back then it was very normal to do this kind of thing in Taiwan. When we bought the house, basically the 6th floor came together, we changed it to a gym with some workout machines but to be honest we barely use it. There's a pretty big space on the roof outdoors and we wanted to recreate it as a BBQ space. We redecorate the ground and the wall to make it look nicer. (The apartment is over 40 years old, everything is damaged) We bought two BBQ stands, one is traditional, another is especially for turkey! We decorate the wall and even put a swing beside it. The gym still remains inside so we can do some workouts after we eat. Although we can’t have a big party right now, my cousins still came and visited us and had a small opening party. We were very lucky to have nice weather with a beautiful sunset.
Supplies
- Nice roof
- BBQ stands
- some money (we asked professional to rebuild the floor and wall)
- nice weather
A Roof
Have a roof with a beautiful view and big space. The second picture is what the inside looks like before and we're starting to rebuild it! Since the building is pretty old we decided to rebuild the ceiling too so it's better to insulate since it's additional at the first so it was only built as a tin house. The last picture is the brand of bbq stand that we bought
Planning
Here's our first rough plan. We already choose two bbq stand and we went to Ikea and bought a desk that's a storage table so we can put it away when we don't have a party. Bought a washbasin at the market that's nice pretty crystal blue. My dad is always a bar table type of person he has a bar table in his every house that's more like a traditional. We used the carpet (you can see in the second picture) so when you are doing yoga or anything you don't need an extra met. The third picture is how the outside turns out!
Step 3: Here's the Result
We realized we need more tables because just our family have more than 20 people. The bar table terns out really good you can walk by and put your drink and little chat with others. The wash table was at a perfect spot because it's right next to the bbq so you can wash food or hand right next to it. Changed the gym into a french window so you can sit inside and watch the sky outside. I can't wait to have the party here!
Step4: Gym Inside
Here is how the inside turns out. We simply used white as the main color but as you can see other than the house itself, all other workout equipment is colorful. We hang the sandbag in the middle and a shelf next to it to put boxing globe, jump rope, and stuff. The machine at the corner is one piece of equipment used in 3 ways so one machine is good enough to handle daily workouts. Last, the most important thing is we have a side of the wall that's just a mirror so it can reflect the room to looks bigger. Also during the workout is nice to have a mirror so you can see if you position yourself in a good posture to prevent injury. Since we changed the wall facing outside to the glass so the sunshine comes in nicely but it's defiantly not good if you ever try to sleep there.
Thank you for watching hope it can help you!
