Easy Bullet Train Model

IMG_20260307_104818.jpg

Have you ever wanted to make something new? Something unexpected? Well, I did. So I made this low-tech bullet train model for the contest "Let there be speed" I only wanted to have a fun time, and I did! This train is the model of what I worked hard for, and hopefully it will be a model for you too.

Supplies

Some kind of coloring supplies (Optional)

The Train Body

IMG_20260307_003803.jpg

Cut out TWO 8 inch (20.32 cm) by 2 inch (5.08 cm) cardboard strips (Image 1)

Make BOTH strips slightly curved on 1/4 of them (Image 2)

The Train Roof

IMG_20260307_004609.jpg

Cut out ONE 8 inch (20.32 cm) by 1 3/4 inch (4.445 cm) cardboard strip

Merge the Body and Roof

Hot glue your two bent cardboard strips and your straight cardboard strips together. MAKE SURE that the two cardboard strips (The slightly bent ones) have the slightly bent side on top. If not, your train will look wonky, and will not come out right. Only put a slight part of the slightly bent cardboard on the roof though.

Creasing

Crease the top so that it is bent at the angle the two sides meet, and crease the sides so they are much more straight.

The Back Side Pt.1

Add a cardboard back side to your train

Cut out a 3 inch (7.62 cm) by 3 inch (7.62 cm) cardboard square(Image 1)

Put the train case to the square and trace the outside where the two items meet. DON'T TRACE THE INSIDE!!! (Image 2)

The Back Side Pt.2

IMG_20260307_011427.jpg

Using a ruler, trace a straight line from the one side of your trace to the other (Image 1)

Cut out the tracing (Image 2)

Hot glue the cut-out and one side of your train case together

The Front

IMG_20260307_093820.jpg

Cut out seven 2 inch (5.08 cm) by 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) cardboard strips.

Hot glue the cardboard strips top to bottom to the empty side of your train body so the strips are going vertically on their short sides. (Look at the picture for a reference)

The Finished Train Body

IMG_20260307_094349.jpg

Cut out another 3 inch (7.62 cm) by 3 inch (7.62 cm) square

Trace the front of the train, but be careful, it's fragile! Once again, DO NOT TRACE THE INSIDE

Using your ruler, trace a straight line from the one end of the line to the other

Cut out your tracing

Add the cut-out to your front side of the train using hot-glue

It doesn't have to be perfect.

THIS STEP IS OPTIONAL!

If you want your train to look good, then follow steps 9-11

If you don't want to right now, then just ignore this. Your train is done :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trace an 8 inch (20.32 cm) by 5 inch (12.7) paper strip, then cut your tracing out.

Using your glue stick, glue the paper strip to the main body, but not the front.

Front and Back

IMG_20260307_102339.jpg

Get out your paper, and trace the back again. This time trace the entire backside. Cut the tracing out and glue it to the back of your train

Trace a 2 inch (5.08 cm) by 5 inch (12.7) paper strip, and cut it out.

Glue it to the front, but not the whole front, just the descending strips.

Trace out the other part of your front, and cut it out.

The Colorful Step

IMG_20260307_103247.jpg

Grab whatever colors you want and decorate you paper to make your train YOU.

I will show what my train looks like, and what colors I used.

*I would add windows and a door*
