DIY Voyninch-esque Codex
a few days ago i read the Codex Seraphinianus and the Voyninch manuscript, and i wanted to do something similar.
Supplies
Its very simple, actually! for the sake of the tutorial, I won't be aging or binding mine, and i won't include how you should bind it, as i have no idea how.
you need:
- Pen (dip pen, ballpoint pen, fountain pen, in any color.)
- paper (hard paper, but not cardboard.) (at least 10 pages)
- art skills (DUH.)
- coffee/water, tea, or soy sauce
- an oven
- colors (optional)
Developing a Language
Developing a language is usually the first step. (unless you want to use old english)
I developed the language Junkle, but you can make your own.
for simplicity, use an alphabet based language. (an alphabet means that the language has a separate glyph for each consonant and vowel.)
Think of Ideas
Now that you have your alphabet, think of some ideas for your Codex.
here are a few examples:
- a book of wonders
- a bestiary
- a religious text
write them down if you want.
Age Your Paper
with a brush, paint your pages with the material of your choice. (MUST be from the supplies list)
Get Writing!!
design a cover and make the title with your language.
(Optional) Bind Your Book
