Fix Roland AX Keytar Modulation Bar
The modulation bar of Roland AX Keytars are weak and will break overtime because the plastic is too weak.
Supplies
- metal parts from metal construction kit (Meccano, Eitech or the like)
- pliers for bending metal
- sandpaper / file
- quality superglue
This one is from a Roland AX-1 from the early 90s, other Keytars have similar constructions. The photo shows the fixed modulation bar. The weak plastic parts are replaced.
Find two of these metal parts. These came from a cheap metal construction toy. Brands like Meccano and Eitech make these. There are many other cheap brands. Check your local thrift store :-)
Important steps before superglueing the metal parts to the plastic:
- Align the screwholes to the part the came off. Verify that it's in the same place.
- Bend the metal parts with pliers as shown in the picture.
- Roughen up the metal with a file thoroughly
- Do the same with the plastic underneath with sandpaper
- Use quality superglue or (perhaps better) E6000
