Today I’m going to show you how to make a foldable chair that is compact, lightweight, and very practical. πŸš—βœ¨

It folds flat for storage, making it perfect for keeping in your car, van, wardrobe, or even taking with you to a picnic.

You can use it in multiple ways:

  1. 🧺 Sit on it during outdoor activities or camping
  2. 🏠 Use it at home as a small step to reach higher places
  3. πŸš™ Keep it in your vehicle for emergencies or convenience

Despite being lightweight, it’s surprisingly strong, I tested it by sitting and standing on it (80 kg load) and it works perfectly. βœ…

Recommended Print Settings βš™οΈ

For best results:

  1. Material: PETG
  2. Layer height: 0.3 mm (Z = 0.3)
  3. Perimeters/Walls: 3 perimeters minimum
  4. Infill: 20–30% (grid or gyroid works well)
  5. Supports: Enabled
  6. Bed adhesion: Optional (brim recommended for large parts)

PETG is suggested because it provides:

  1. Better layer bonding πŸ’ͺ
  2. Slight flexibility (important for hinges)
  3. Higher durability compared to PLA

Supplies

  1. 3D printer
  2. PETG filament (recommended for strength and flexibility)
  3. Fixer pins (printed parts)
  4. Supports enabled in slicer
  5. Basic sanding tools (optional, for smoother fitting)

⚠️ Important: Test that all parts fit perfectly before inserting the fixers.

Each fixer can only be hammered in once, you cannot take them apart afterward.

Put all parts together at the hinges.

The last hinges should align carefully.

βœ… Test Folding:

  1. Fold the chair:
  2. Top side lifts slightly ⬆️
  3. Small side folds inward ↩️
  4. Both sides reach full folding position
  5. Unfold the chair by reversing the steps πŸ”„

Make sure the movement is smooth and nothing blocks the hinges.
