Foldable Chair / Step Stool β Easy to Store & Lightweight
Today Iβm going to show you how to make a foldable chair that is compact, lightweight, and very practical. πβ¨
It folds flat for storage, making it perfect for keeping in your car, van, wardrobe, or even taking with you to a picnic.
You can use it in multiple ways:
- π§Ί Sit on it during outdoor activities or camping
- π Use it at home as a small step to reach higher places
- π Keep it in your vehicle for emergencies or convenience
Despite being lightweight, itβs surprisingly strong, I tested it by sitting and standing on it (80 kg load) and it works perfectly. β
Recommended Print Settings βοΈ
For best results:
- Material: PETG
- Layer height: 0.3 mm (Z = 0.3)
- Perimeters/Walls: 3 perimeters minimum
- Infill: 20β30% (grid or gyroid works well)
- Supports: Enabled
- Bed adhesion: Optional (brim recommended for large parts)
PETG is suggested because it provides:
- Better layer bonding πͺ
- Slight flexibility (important for hinges)
- Higher durability compared to PLA
Supplies
- 3D printer
- PETG filament (recommended for strength and flexibility)
- Fixer pins (printed parts)
- Supports enabled in slicer
- Basic sanding tools (optional, for smoother fitting)

Check that the parts fit snugly before moving to the next step.

Be careful with the position of the hinges to ensure smooth folding later.

Pay close attention to the position of the hinges for proper folding.
Assemble

β οΈ Important: Test that all parts fit perfectly before inserting the fixers.
Each fixer can only be hammered in once, you cannot take them apart afterward.

The last hinges should align carefully.
β Test Folding:
- Fold the chair:
