3 1/3" x 5" Colorado magnetmade from 3MM Baltic Beech.
Supplies
- Laser Cutter
- Wood Glue
- Safety Glasses
- Wood Stain (Yellow, White, Red, and Blue)
- 3MM Baltic Beech
- 2 Nickel size Magnets
Create Parts in Solidworks
There are five parts that you will need to create for the assembly. Create each part in a separate part file in Solidworks. The parts that you will need are the yellow circle, the red c, the top and bottom blue blocks, and the white rectangale background. The sizes for each part are shown in the drawing file above (Also make all parts .118 inches or 3 MM thick).
Add Parts to Assembly
Assemble all of the parts together, with the white rectangle being the background of all of the other parts.
Create a Laser Cut Drawing
Use the drawing that you used for the assembly to create a drawing that you will export to your laser cutter. Also make sure to add a 3 1/3 x 5 inch rectangle next to the drawing for the background.
Laser Cut Your Parts
(Wear safety glasses for this step) Save your laser cut drawing in a usb and insert that into a computer that is connected to your laser cutter. Follow the instructions to your laser cutter to cut out the parts (make sure the wood used is 3MM Baltic Beech).
Stain Each of Your Parts and Glue Them
You will now grab all of your parts from the laser cutter and stain them with wood stain. Remember, the circle is yellow, the C is red, the two rectangle-like pieces are blue, and the large rectangle is white. Finish off this step by gluing the all of the pieces together with wood glue just like the photo above.
Adding Magnets
For the last step, glue on two magnets, evenly spaced, on the back of the board. after completing this, you have finished the Colorado magnet. Congratulations!
