While brainstorming ideas for the Instructables chair contest, I decided to begin by thinking about what I wanted to target in my chair's design: comfort, style, nature, or simplicity. I ended up targeting ideas inspired by nature, and through editing and redesign, I found a chair of simplicity, style, and most of all, nature.

Growing Microgreens

After choosing your choice of microgreens, you must place them on a paper towel on top of a dish, using the amount you need if making a mini or life-size. Sprinkle a good layer of the seeds onto the paper towel placed in front of a window letting in a good amount of sun, then spray twice daily.

After sketching my initial design on paper, I decided to simplify it and model it again in Fusion 360. My concept features a cushion-like seat on top, where microgreens grow inside, connected to a rounded pyramid-shaped base filled with soil. The plan is to 3D print the chair in two vertical halves, allowing us to place the microgreens and soil inside.

Combining the Elements

Cut your sprouted microgreens and soil in half so they fit on both sides of the chair. Place one half of the microgreens and soil into the hollow on one side of the cushion and the other half into the second side. Then glue the two sides together and gently shake the chair to level the soil.

Thank You!!
