No Waste Dog Treats: Cookie Crumbs

IMG_0749.jpeg

I hate wasting, my family hates wasting, and so does my dog. She loves to eat every crumb of whatever food there is. Recently, we had crumbs lying around from homemade bread, and a lot of crumbs on the bottom of a chip bag. I decided to not throw anything away and repurpose the rest of the crumbs.

CRUSH THOSE CHIPS

You know those recently expired crumbly chips sitting in the bottom of your pantry that no one wants to eat. Well, I assure you that there is a family member who doesn’t care condition a certain food is in, as long as it doesn’t go to waste. In my family, it’s my dog. So, crush those chips even more with whatever tool you can find. Try to crush the chips as much as you can to create a more powdery consistency and less sharp edges. If you can’t get everything totally crumbled, that’s okay because there is another way to keep it from choking your dog. Stay tuned for how.

Dry Ingredients

Pour all the dry ingredients into a bowl. I made a mixture of chips crumbs, minimal bread crumbs, and flour, all totaling one cup.

Wet Ingredients

This was the process of adding the egg and water. First add one egg, and mix. Add water two tablespoons at a time. The water also helps make the sharp chips soggier, so your dog doesn’t choke. You want to keep mixing until it becomes a nice consistency of being crumbly and holding together when pressed, just like the last picture. If it becomes too wet, or if it’s too crumbly, add flour so that it becomes smoother or drier, two tablespoons at a time. After you have a nice consistency, you can sprinkle around bacon bits.

Shape the dough into 3D spheres that are a bit smaller than golf balls and transfer them neatly onto a piece of parchment paper. Press them down with the palm of your hand until they become 2D circles. You may need to bake them into multiple batches. Put them into the preheated oven and bake!

Enjoy!

Cool the cookies for around 10-15 minutes to ensure that your dog doesn’t get burned. Your dog will absolutely love these cookies! They will lick their lips a dozen times, stretch their neck out, and snatch it out of your hand. I’ve included real-life examples of my dog. Have fun baking!

*To preserve them, place them in the refrigerator or else they mold in less than a week.
