Spider Earring / Hairfork with Polymer clay

I read a book "Tin Goyenda" in my childhood, where there was a story about a Silver spider mystery. This was inspired from that. I made the realistic Spider with polymer clay and turned into different wearables like earrings, hairfork, finger ring and pendant.

  1. First make 2 polymer clay balls, one small and another a bit larger. stack these 2 putting a bit of bake & bond in between. smaller ball is the spider head and larger one is the body.
  2. Tnsert 2 tinty narrow wires on the back of the body
  3. Then take a tiny bit of clay, make a tiny ball out of it and press lightly to flatten it a bit. Attach this on the head . dap exacto knife over the newly attached flattened clay and smoothen it.
  4. Then take very tiny amount of clay, roll out 2 tiny pointy snakes and attach these on 2 sides of the spider head.
  5. Bake the spider in the oven according to the clay package instruction.

Now the legs.

  1. C 4 pieces of wires of same length. ( I used brass wire )
  2. Put some bake & bond on the wires
  3. Take a small piece of clay and cover on the middle of a wire.
  4. Start to roll it and make a little stretch towards the ends of the wire while rolling.
  5. In the middle, flatten a space according to the spider head length. ( marked red in picture )
  6. On both of the sides left and right from the mid flattened part, create 5 segments by dabbing a little around the clay stick ( wih exacto knife )
  7. Take a bit of clay softner on the tip of a silicone sculpting tool and smooth out the shap dabbed segments.
  8. Do the same on 3 other wires.

  1. Now Bend the marked segments carefully, resembling to the bends of spider legs.
  2. If you want to make it silver, then you can paint it with silver acrylic paint or rub n buff.
  3. If you wete heading for making hairfork, it done here! and if you're going for hanging pendant, then just insert a chain through the eyepin you have attached with the spider. If you are going for hanging spider earring, the attach a chain through the eye pin and a earring hook through the other end of the chain. and if you're going for finger ring, just glue it over a plain ring! Done!

Hope you guys enjoyed the process!
