Squirrel Shaped Cookie : a Greedy Little Squirrel for Cashews!
I thought of making a cookie in a slightly different way 🍪✨. So, I chose a squirrel 🐿️. I wanted to move away from the usual cookies we always make and create something beautiful and unique 🎨💡.
Even though I couldn’t finish it exactly the way I imagined 🤍, I still felt like sharing it with you all 🤗. So, let’s take a look at how to make this squirrel shaped cookie 🐿️🍪.
If you’d like, you can also create a different animal using the same method 🐰🐶✨.
Supplies
Ingredients For cookie
- 100g unsalted butter
- 65g powdered sugar
- 25g milk powder
- 3g vanilla extract
- 180g cake flour
- 50 g cocoa powder
- Cashew nuts or Almond nuts
Tools and Others
- Oven
- Squirrel Shape Cookie Cutter
- Dishes & Bowls
- Spatula
- Whisk
- Parchment papers
- Rolling pin
- Sellotape
- Scissor
When I was making this, I couldn’t find a cookie cutter in the shape of a squirrel ️. So, I printed the design on a piece of paper, cut it out ✂️, and used that to create the squirrel shape.
As we go forward, I’ll show you that step as well.
Cookie Dough Preparation 🍪👩🍳
Alright, first let’s prepare the cookie dough. Take a bowl with enough space and add the butter 🧈. Using a whisk, mix it well until the butter becomes soft and creamy.
By whisking it in circular motions a few times 🔄, you can soften and mix it quickly and easily.
Dough Making Process...
After the butter is well softened, we add the sugar. Once added, mix everything together thoroughly until well combined. 🥣
Here, I used granulated sugar, but if you can use powdered sugar, that would be even better. It mixes more easily and smoothly, making the process simpler.
Dough Making Process...
Next, take the milk powder and add a small amount of warm water. 🥛
When dissolving the milk powder, remember to use water that’s around 30°C (86°F) 🌡️
Mix it well until it dissolves. Follow the method shown in the photo.
Be careful not to add too much water 🚫💦. Add it little by little until you get the right consistency. 👌
Dough Making Process...
Now, we need to add the milk powder mixture that we prepared earlier. 🥛
Make sure the milk is not too cold, as the milk and butter may separate if the temperature is not right. If separation occurs, heat in the microwave for 5 seconds at a time and mix. ⚠️
Next, while mixing our mixture well, we add the vanilla. After adding the vanilla, mix everything thoroughly until it is well combined. 🥣
Dough Making Process...
Once everything is well mixed with the vanilla, we need to add the cake flour. When adding it, start by adding a small amount first and mix it in gently. 🥣
If the mixture still feels a bit too soft, you can add a little more flour and continue mixing. As the dough gradually becomes thicker, switch to using a spatula 🥄, because it becomes difficult to mix further with a whisk.
Dough Ready! ✅
When the mixture is done properly, it will look nice and smooth like this 🍪. Now, all we need to do is place it in the refrigerator for one hour. ❄️⏰
DIY Cookie Cutter ✂️
If you have a cookie cutter like this, you can skip this step. Otherwise, you can choose any animal or shape you like. 🐶🐰⭐
Since I don’t currently have a squirrel shaped cookie cutter, I printed a squirrel design instead. I’ve shared the one I used as an A4 PDF 📄, so anyone who wants can download and use it.
I printed the design, carefully cut around the outline ✂️, and separated the two shapes. After that, I covered the top with clear tape, because if it’s placed directly on the cookie dough, the paper can stick and become hard to remove.

Cookie Dough After 1 Hour ⏰
Alright, after one hour, I took the cookie dough out of the refrigerator. It looks really good and has firmed up nicely.👌
After that, I divide the cookie dough evenly into two equal portions. 🔪
Chocolate Dough 🟤
After dividing it into two parts, I take one portion and add some cocoa powder 🍫. Then I mix it well until everything is evenly combined. You can refer to the photo. 📸
in the end, it should become a beautiful chocolate colored dough. 🤎
We’ll use this chocolate colored dough for the squirrel’s body, and the remaining light colored dough will be used for the squirrel’s face .
Using two colors really makes the squirrel look more attractive and detailed. ✨😊
Let’s Cut Some Cookies! 🍪
Alright, now I divided the two cookie dough portions into smaller pieces to make it easier to cut the squirrel. I rolled each small piece flat using a rolling pin.🍪✨
After that, I took the squirrel shaped paper template we prepared earlier, placed it on top of the rolled dough, and carefully cut around it, separating the pieces into the shapes we need.✂️
Cookie Decoration 🖌️
Alright, now it’s time to make the squirrel look nice. 🐿️✨
First, I carefully placed the light colored dough for the squirrel’s face on top of the body
Next, I took a small portion of the chocolate colored dough, shaped it into two tiny balls, and set them aside for the eyes. 👀
For the squirrel’s hands, I used cashew nuts 🥜, but if you like, you could use almonds instead.
I also used small pieces of chocolate colored dough to make the eyes and the little nose/mouth, giving the squirrel a cute look. 😄
You can check my photos for reference. 📸
Alright, now the squirrel decoration is done. 🐿️✨
The next step is to bake it in the oven. 🍪🔥 Preheat your oven to 140°C (284°F) and bake for 15 minutes. ⏰
Perfectly Baked Squirrel Cookie 🍪🐿️
Alright, this is how our squirrel looks after being baked nicely in the oven. 🐿️🍪✨ It has a beautiful, cute finish.
Depending on the thickness of the squirrel cookie you made, you can bake it for an extra one or two minutes if needed. ⏱️🔥
Making the Squirrel Tail 🐿️
Our squirrel is ready now. The final step is to make the squirrel’s tail.
To make the tail, I gathered the leftover cookie dough from cutting the squirrel earlier and rolled it out thin on a sheet of parchment paper. 📄
While rolling it out, I kept the chocolate colored dough slightly longer, because that part will be visible on the outside. 🟤
The light colored dough was trimmed neatly on both sides and shaped into a rectangle, since it will go in the center.
After rolling them out, place both pieces separately in the refrigerator for about 30–45 minutes. ❄️⏳
I’m keeping this part a bit short because I explained these steps in detail earlier when making the squirrel.😊
Tail Ready ✅
Alright, after 45 minutes, take out the two rolled dough sheets from the fridge ❄️🍪
Place the light colored dough on top of the chocolate colored dough and roll them together. For a clearer idea, you can refer to my photos. 📸
Once rolled, cut the dough into small pieces. 🔪 Cut pieces that match the size of the squirrel’s body. I cut pieces about 1.5 cm thick, which works perfectly. This will be used for the squirrel’s tail. 🐿️
After that, bake the tails at the same temperature used earlier for the squirrel, for about 20 minutes. 🔥⏱️
Depending on the thickness of the squirrel’s tail you made, you can bake it for an extra 5–10 minutes if needed.
And once that’s done, our work is complete! 🎉🍪✨
The Final Look 🐿️🍪✨
Now you can beautifully arrange and present the squirrel and its tail. 🐿️🍪
Feel free to decorate it even more based on your own creativity. 🎨🌸
Even though I couldn’t finish it exactly the way I imagined, I hope you can see the effort I put into creating and sharing this recipe with you. 🤍😊
Anyway, try making it yourself and enjoy creating something new and fun✨ If you have any questions or run into any problems, don’t forget to ask in the comments below. 💬👇
