The Five Most Useful 3d-prints in My Workshop

five 3ds.png

After having a 3d-printer for a few years I want to share with you the five most useful 3d-printed items in my workshop. These are 3d-prints I use daily. Your mileage may vary. These prints are simple, require no special filament, can be easily re-printed as necessary; and they make my work a lot easier. Files for 3d printing these items are included below.

Feel free to suggest your own 3d-printed items that work really well for you!

Supplies

3d-Printer

PLA or PETG Filament

Magnets

3/16" Hardboard

Glue Bottle Stand and Opener

To get the last quarter of glue out of your glue bottle - without waiting forever - store the glue bottle upside down on the stand. The handy opener makes it easy to lift the cap and open the bottle.

Dust Collection Adaptors

I made a magnetic 4” port adaptor for my moveable (wheeled) dust collector. The corresponding magnetic adaptor on the 4” flexible hoses connects my table saw, band saw, or jointer quickly and easily to the dust collector as I move it around to use one of these tools.

I also have two different shop-vacs with different sized hoses. For each bench-top tool I 3d-printed a hose-to-tool adaptor.

Corner Templates

Every time I need to round off a corner I use my corner templates. I have templates for 1/4", 1/2”, 5/8”, 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/4”, and 1-1/2” radii. Hook the template over the corner, mark with a sharp pencil, and cut/sand to the line. Use for cutting boards, table tops, etc.

Sanding Blocks

The sanding blocks use recycled packing foam for the body and a top plate assembly to fix/hold the sandpaper. You can easily swap out the sandpaper. You can choose to glue the foam pad to the top plate or leave it loose. The design can be adapted for different shapes and curvatures of the workpiece.

Drawer Dividers

Print a bunch of these clips to make custom-fit drawer dividers using 3/16” hardboard. Use corner clips, T-shaped clips, and cross-shaped clips for different parts of the drawer layout.
