The Perfect Balance: a Ping Pong Trick

If you've ever struggled to keep a ping pong ball from rolling off the top your paddle, the solution is simpler than you might think. Today, I'll show you how to blow everyone's mind with this simple and fun 3-step trick! Let's get started!

Supplies

You will need:

  1. A ping pong ball
  2. A ping pong paddle
  3. A safety pin
  4. Toothpicks
  5. Tape (or duct tape)

The Hole

Carefully take your safety pin and push it into the ball. I recommend using a bigger safety pin so it's easier to grip. You will likely have to do this a few times around the hole so it will be just big enough for the toothpick to fit. Once the hole is big enough, you can remove the safety pin.

Although you may find other materials that work for this too, I found safety pins work just fine and won't cause the ping pong ball to crack. Please be safe when doing this!

Fitting the Toothpick

Take a toothpick, and firmly push it into the hole. It should just barely fit the hole in the ball, so when you pick up the other half of the toothpick that's still sticking out and move it around, the ball won't slip right off. Don't get discouraged if the toothpick breaks while you're trying to push it into the hole; that happened to me twice.

Taping It to the Paddle

Now take your toothpick and ball and press it to your ping pong paddle firmly. Hold it there and grab a piece of tape or two. Tape it to your paddle, and you're finished!
