Travel Friendly Luggage Portable Laundry Clothes Rack

Ever had the issue of having to buy a clothes rack everytime you move to a new city and discarding the old one you bought?

I have been travelling countries and cities over the last 2 years and have not stayed at a city for more than 5 months at a time, which is too short a time to invest in a permanent set of furniture, but then yet, it is a necessity.

I came up with a design that costs roughly €10 and allows me to dismantle the clothes rack to transport it with my luggage in my suitcase and save on the money I would spend to buy this numerous times.

Gather Materials

For my purpose, I decided to design it out of C-PVC pipes to save on the weight and yet add to the strength.

  • 6x 3/4" C-PVC pipe
  • 4x end cap
  • 4x elbow joint
  • 8x T-joint
  • nylon cable

Other than this, you just need a hacksaw, a measuring tape and a marker

Designing the Rack

The length of my suitcase of my suitcase was 2'6" (18") so that governed the length of my longest piece which in turn established the height of the rack.

You may refer the images for the trigonometric calculations

Cut the PVC pipes into the following lengths:

  • 10x 18"
  • 2 x 24"
  • 2 x 4"
  • 2 x 3"
  • 2 x 1"

Pieces...Assemble!!!

Assemble the pieces to result in the structure as shown.

Use the nylon cable and tie it across the rack to add lines to hang the linen from and start using it.
